Love Yourself More.

Body image is a popular topic in todays media criticizing everyone about what “the perfect body is.” I hear it every time I turn on the radio and see it every time I turn on the TV or pick up a magazine. Someone is always being condemned on his or her outer appearance and I think this needs to end. Girls, body shaming is NOT ok.
Actor Gabourey Sidibe was being interviewed and said something that I will never forget about body image; she said, “One day I decided that I was beautiful, and so I carried out my life as If I was a beautiful girl. I wear colors I really life, I wear makeup that makes me feel pretty, and it really helps. It doesn’t have anything to do with how the world perceives you. What matters is what you see.” Reading this changed my perspective on how I should be viewing myself. I need to see myself more in a more positive light. You only have one life to live and you only get one body to live it out in so you might as well change your perspective and love yourself!
How does one go about loving their self more? What does that look like? Does that mean exercising more? Does that mean eating a bowl of ice cream, or eating a salad? Buying new outfits? Well, it can be all of those things. Self-love starts with trusting your intuition and learning to hear what your body is telling you. Self-love takes time and practice. It might come easy for some people and others not so much. Below, I’ve put together a list of ways to love yourself more.
- Be nicer to yourself.
People give out compliments to others all the time, but when is the last time you said something nice about yourself? We are quick to judge ourselves and say negative things, but in all honesty that is hurting you more than you will ever know. For example, next time you mess up instead of saying “Why do I always do that?” say, “I now know what not to do and will fix it.”
- Write motivational quotes where you can see them.
Writing something as simple as “I will love myself” on a sticky note and putting it on your bathroom mirror for you to see will remind you to be nicer to yourself. Be nice and love yourself.
- Spend time alone during the week.
Get to know yourself and do things by yourself. By being independent and not relying on others, you trust your instincts more, and you are more comfortable with yourself as an individual.
Try out these tips this week and see how your perspective changes about how you treat yourself!
And remember "great style starts with inner beauty..."
